WRA Project #3 Reflection

In my WRA 150 class, we had to construct a music research paper and I thought it was an awesome project because everyone loves some type of music. Being that I’m big on Rap/Hip-hop and R&B music, I choose to do my essay on these two genres. My main research question was “why are sexual lyrics in R&B more socially accepted than sexual lyrics in Rap/Hip-hop.” Answering this question was so fun because I got analyze music the whole time I was working. Writing the paper was really easy until I got to the research part. Indeed, it was very difficult to find sophisticated research about sexual lyrics on both the database and the web. I had to search very hard for the research that I did find but I think that it all worked out in the end. Another issue I had was making it longer. I’ve never written a 6-8 page paper and since I had both pictures and lyrics within the paper, it needed to be more towards the 8 pages. In the end I got 7 pages of a very good well-written and supported research paper. I’m very proud of this paper.

WRA 150 Project #2 Reflection

In My WRA 150 class, we were asked to pick a popular cultural artifact and discuss a theme or topic surrounding it. For me personally, I choose to talk about Jordan sneakers, more specifically, newly released Jordan sneakers. Jordan sneakers have become very popular and when they are newly released they create chaos because there are so few released. This topic was easy for me to talk about being that I experience this madness year after year, which ultimately builds my credibility. I’ve been wearing Jordan sneakers for a long time and I’m around people who love Jordan sneakers on a daily basis. For me, Jordan were a fun and easy topic to discuss because they’re such a huge factor in my life. While writing this essay, I had few troubles, but I did have some. The hardest part for me was using a database and citing sources from a database, because it’s not something that I’m very familiar with.  Other than these small troubles, I had a great time proving that Jordan sneakers are a popular cultural artifact and that the issues surrounding them occur because the producers don’t produce enough and are unorganized on release day.
